January Update from Norfolk Fireworks HQ

January Update from Norfolk Fireworks HQ

New products, brighter effects… and an important message about the proposed 90dB limit.

January might feel like the quiet season, but it’s anything but here at Norfolk Fireworks. We’ve already been seeing some seriously impressive new products, and we’ve started placing orders for the 2026 season.

And honestly — every year we think the factories can’t possibly push things any further… then they do.
The colours are more vivid, the effects are sharper, and the artwork is getting better looking than ever.

A 90dB limit isn’t a “reduction” — it’s a ban

There’s been renewed discussion in Parliament around the sale of fireworks, and as usual the anti-firework lobby has been out in force.

One of the biggest pushes right now is for a 90dB noise limit.

Let me be clear: a 90dB limit would effectively ban consumer fireworks.

90dB is roughly the volume of a lawnmower. And because of how fireworks work — lift, burst height, and how sound carries — this isn’t just a case of “turning the volume down”. It would make most legal consumer fireworks impossible to sell.

If regulated products disappear, it doesn’t stop demand. It risks driving people towards a black market of untested, unsafe explosives — exactly what nobody wants.

We are the silent majority — and MPs need to hear from us

MPs hear the complaints regularly, but they rarely hear from the millions of people who enjoy fireworks responsibly — families, communities, cultural celebrations, and local events. That’s why we’re asking you to take two minutes and email your local MP.

Subject: Please oppose the 90dB firework limit – Support the BFA 10-Point Plan

Dear [MP Name],

I am writing to you as one of your constituents living at [Insert Your Postcode].

I am contacting you regarding recent discussions in Parliament on the sale of fireworks. I am deeply concerned by calls for a 90dB noise limit on consumer fireworks.

As a responsible user of fireworks, I want to highlight that a 90dB limit would be a de facto ban on the public’s ability to host family displays. It would remove the vast majority of legal products from the market.

Banning regulated fireworks will not solve anti-social behaviour; it risks driving the market underground. This could fuel a black market of dangerous, untested, high-explosive items that are far harder for the police to control.

I urge you to reject calls for a ban or unrealistic decibel limits and instead support the British Fireworks Association’s 10-Point Plan, which includes:

  • Raising the legal purchasing age to 21
  • Better enforcement and funding for police to tackle illegal sellers
  • Tougher sentencing for those who misuse fireworks

Please support the responsible majority and focus on enforcement against criminals, rather than punishing families who follow the rules.

Yours sincerely,
[Your Name]
